"A-Musing" : The Real BossaNova

Bossa Nova As It Was
There's a glut in the music industry nowadays... a bossa glut. Some sectors opine that the phenomena has threatened to depreciate the allure of this Brazillian genre created by "Antônio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes and João Gilberto ...first introduced in Brazil in 1958". Admittedly, no one does it quite like the originators...

Genius in a Name: Gilberto
João Gilberto (born João Gilberto Prado Pereira de Oliveira on June 10, 1931 in the town of Juazeiro, Bahia) is a Brazilian musician and considered one of the creators, with Tom Jobim (Antonio Carlos Jobim) and Vinicius de Moraes, of bossa nova. Astrud Gilberto was born Astrud Weinert the daughter of a Brazilian mother and a German father in the state of Bahia, and grew up in Rio de Janeiro. Astrud married João Gilberto in 1959, and they emigrated to the United States in 1963, when she performed on the influential Getz/Gilberto album with João Gilberto, Stan Getz and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Astrud had never performed professionally before, and joined the recordings by insistence of João Gilberto. In the mid-1960s the couple divorced. Bebel Gilberto (born Isabel Gilberto on May 12, 1966 in New York City) is a Brazilian popular singer often associated with bossa nova. She is the daughter of João Gilberto and singer Miúcha.
